The civic participation and the local development in Egypt

Nowadays, Civic participation is an important topic in Egypt, especially when it comes as a generator for alternative solutions for the national economic crisis, it helps the community and the government in shaping needs, issues, solutions, plans, and priorities, because of that we believe in the power of civic participation to enhance skills and knowledge to active participation. This is the second paper in Civic Participation file, it comes after the first one which was focus on civic participation definitions, and the levels of it based on UNDP.  This paper focuses on the formal structure of civic participation in Egypt, by giving and historical introduction for the local councils, and its duties and structure, and how can it help in design and planning and implementation for the development programs, and the most important thing: what are we losing after Cancellation of its work in 2011.  

Is Egyptian food security in danger? Food Security and Climate Change.

As we approach the mid third decade of the third millennium, it is obvious that the climate change is really happening, and is no longer a mere assumption with potential repercussions. It has become a tangible reality with impacts on all aspects of human beings’ lives. It is also apparent that some of these will take a catastrophic turn in the short\ medium term during the second half of the current century at most, if not before. This research paper focuses on the impact of climate change on food security in Egypt, identify the effects of the global food system and food supply chains and its contribution to climate change, and the impact of climate change on food security in Egypt. It proposes some solutions that can limit or mitigate climate change and its expected impact on food in Egypt. The paper uses information, data and figures in an analytical manner to identify the current situation and possible future scenarios of climate change and its consequences on food security in Egypt.

Introduction to Civic Participation: The Concept of Civic Participation and Ways to Enhance it in Egypt

The paper caver two topics: first: specifying the concept of civic participation in the executive authority’ discourse represented in the president, various ministeries, and other authorities in the country, and indicates the different governmental references of this concept; and second, show the civic education for participation’ mechanism as the main factor to achieve the concept of the civic participation.
